SPRING Lamp Work Beads | Contest Winners 4.10.12
Welcome Glass Bead fans! First up, our artists will be posting Spring Glass Beads... birds, flowers, nests, pastels or brights... whatever spring means to them!

Hot Glass Beads 8.7.13
Did you know that ALL glass beads are hot glass beads??? That's because they are created in a flame or a "lamp" - which is also why they are referred to as lampwork beads!
One of the most popular types of glass beads are known as eye beads. These can be as simple as a base color covered in raised dots or... they can also be very realistic looking. Our sponsor and eternal cheerleader, Janel Dudley specializes in the realistic kind. She even makes murrini to help other glassers make fantastic eyes of their own! One of the most important things to look for in an eye bead is... ODD numbers! Lore from the Middle East refers to the third eye (often drawn mid-forehead) as intuition. For this reason, it is considered good luck to have an odd number of eyes... and bad luck if they are even in number. Janel often makes hers in odd numbers (she also has some of even number for Americans who don't get the lore but like things "even.")

Glass Beads and Lampwork Jewelry July13, 2013
Most folks who purchase the gorgeous glass beads you see here make lampwork jewelry.But we know there are those glass bead fans out there that don't have a clue how to make jewelry or they just don't have the time. So we like to feature a finished piece around here from time to time.
Have you noticed that skulls seem to be EVERYWHERE lately. There were three in line at the airport last week and two spotted in the bank! And there's been a couple posted here in the past week...making it kinda hard to choose ONE! So why bother??? Let's see BOTH! (It's Saturday...let's splurge!)
Our first one is from our longtime supporter and sponsor, Cindy Lynne Designs and she's used different murrini and wire wrapped her "Goofy Skull Pendant." And the second is on a skeleton key (you gotta love the play on words!) and is from Elizabeth Beads.
We will be featuring lots of Halloween Glass Beads beginning in August... So artisans, get ready!!! And don't forget this Monday is BLUE MONDAY!

Glass Beads Lampwork July 10, 2013
It's always fun to see what elements our artists use in their Glass Beads... colorful frits and stringers, dichroic, pure metallic leaf and foils, sparkling aventurine and even murrini. Glass murrini is created when an artist draws a picture with lots of glass in a very large cane which is super heated and pulled very thin. Once cool it's cut into chips for application in a glass bead! Neat huh!
Yesterday, we had an Jolene from Kitzbitz Art Beads share this cool Hermit Crab Murrini. She sells murrini under the name Frit n Chips.
